PERMANENT MISSION OF THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

TO THE INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY

VIENNA

National Liaison Office for Technical Cooperation

In 2010, the Permanent Mission to the IAEA was appointed as the National Liaison Office (NLO) for Technical Cooperation between the Agency and the UAE. Since the establishment of the Mission, about 15 national TC projects have been successfully implemented and closed, and seven projects are still on-going within the current TC cycle (2014-2015).

Through the IAEA’s TC Programme, national entities and organisations from various sectors receive comprehensive knowledge and expertise in nuclear science and technology. A wide range of activities such as training courses and workshops, conferences, scientific visits and fellowships, expert missions and reviews strategically address topics of nuclear applications in human health (nuclear medicine, radiation use, cancer therapy) and nuclear medicine, water and the environment, nuclear power infrastructure, radiation protection, nuclear safety and security, nuclear and radioactive waste management, nuclear knowledge development and management as well as radiation technology.

The Permanent Mission of the UAE to the IAEA seeks to ensure continuous engagement of all relevant national stakeholders in Technical Cooperation activities of the IAEA. It aims at  strengthening the current transfer of knowledge, in addition to exploring new areas in which national stakeholders can benefit from IAEA expertise. This has been demonstrated through an increased level of participation from the UAE in TC activities,  with a higher number of national entities engaging in those activities.

Active national stakeholders include: the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), the Critical Infrastructure and Coastal Protection Authority (CICPA), the National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA), the Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KU), Dubai Health Authority and many others.
